About the Museum
Like other colleges and universities around the city, Parsons School of Design hosts a small gallery space in the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center. Rotating exhibitions explore different aspects of the design process, with a particular focus on the works for students, faculty, and alumni.
What You Will See
Recent exhibitions held at the gallery have examined topics as varied as design for disaster preparedness, art that addresses contemporary issues of social justice and the intersection of fashion and race. In short, it is impossible to predict what Parson's will do next. But whatever topic it selects, whether broad or esoteric, it is presented in a fashionable, accessible, and artistic way.
Why You Should Go
New York City has many options for exploring the contemporary and historical state of design. Unlike the Cooper Hewitt or the MAD, Parson's is driven by an academic institution which combines the energy of its students with the expertise of its faculty to approach some of the most relevant issues in design and society. Stop by regularly, as exhibitions change rapidly at this fascinating (and free) gallery space.
